Maeve..

Maeve is a young woman who grew up on the south coast of New South Wales in Australia. She has always been passionate about the rights of others and animals and dedicated to raising awareness and helping in any way possible. This is reflected in her involvement in her local community from a young age, her achievements at school and the international connections and commitments she has made.

Since the age of eight, Maeve has been heavily involved in local community projects. She has volunteered her time with the local Lions Club at local events to raise funds for national and international organisations and was responsible for the organisation of a Christmas charity market that supported local business and two international charities, the Blue Dragon and Kiva International. She has also organised her own fundraising events that supported the local pet rescue, and now her work with sayari nyuki and CHETI NGO.

At school, Maeve achieved the highest mark in her year for the HSC and her dedication to learning lead her to a 6 week International Pre-Collegiate program at the University of California, Berkley in 2016 where she achieved outstanding results. At UC Berkeley, Maeve was exposed to the global issues surrounding modern migration. She was also lucky enough to have the opportunity to talk to a UN humanitarian officer and Patrick Kingsley, a journalist for the Guardian and author of ‘The New Odyssey’. These experiences were deeply inspiring and sparked her interest in the global humanitarian effort, lead by International humanitarian organisations, NGOs and charities.

Maeve credits her family and friends for her firm belief in the importance of giving back. Their confidence in her has given her the courage to, at nineteen, pursue a future that is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others.

Her drive and passion for helping others lead her to travelling solo to Africa in her gap year, where she volunteered at Cheti Schools for the first time. This would be the trip that would changed her life.

“It was pure chance that I volunteered at Cheti Schools in 2018. And that chance lead me to meet Zuma, the most inspiring man I know. Witnessing his vision, passion and dedication to children and education in Tanzania changed my life forever.

Now, together, we are helping empower and change the lives of girls, boys, women and communities in rural Tanzania. I am confident in our future success and excited about the possibilities ahead.

I am thankful for my family and friends for encouraging me and to Zuma and Tanzania for inspiring me everyday!”
