Who We Are

Maeve Turner

founder & director of inuka

Maeve is a young woman from the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. She has always been very passionate about the rights of humans and animals, social justice, and the power of education.

As part of her gap year in 2018, Maeve travelled to Africa to volunteer for ten weeks. Seven of those ten weeks were spent in Arusha, Tanzania at Cheti School.

Maeve was inspired by Zuma and his vision for the children in his care. She could see his passion and commitment reflected in the Cheti teaching staff and the effects of their dedication was easy to see in the enthusiasm and love of learning in each of the children at Cheti.

As someone who comes from a country where a quality education is largely taken for granted, Maeve believes it is a privilege to be able to support Zuma's work in bringing education and opportunity to the children of Cheti.

Zuma Mtui

founder & director of cheti ngo

Zuma was born and raised in Tanzania. As a young boy he was abandoned by his mother and, as a result, was unable to receive a proper education. He gained a basic education during his late teen years and realised the importance of children getting an education - "knowledge is power".

Zuma is a man who came from nothing, yet has now established seven schools in Arusha, providing an education to more than 1000 students. Zuma is the epitome of selflessness. He lives a very simple life with his wife and children, and has dedicated this life to helping his community and the children in it to receive a quality education. Zuma is driven by the belief that his purpose is to help others and those less fortunate, and that he must do all that he can do to help as the reward from that is so much more fulfilling and satisfying than focusing on himself.

Zuma Mtuy is nothing short of inspirational, not only to myself, but to all of those who’s lives have been touched by him. - Maeve
