Who they are…

Lucy%2Band%2BJason.jpg

Lucy, Teacher Lucy

Lucy, better known as Teacher Lucy, is a dedicated mother, sister and teacher. Lucy is a single mum who works at Cheti School to support her one year old son, Jason and her sister, Irene. Teacher Lucy’s classroom at Cheti 1 was the first class Maeve volunteered at in 2018. Since then, Lucy has become one of Maeve’s greatest friends in Tanzania.

Rose

Rose is an ambitious woman, single mother and close confidante of Maeve’s. They first met in 2018 when Rose was working for the company Maeve was hosted with. Since then, Rose has established her own business in the volunteer and tourism industry. Rose is a sweet and beautiful woman who is proud of her achievements, of her daughter and her future.

Happyness.png

Happyness

As her name suggests, this woman is full of love, hope and kindness. Happyness is Maeve’s African mum when she visits Tanzania. Not only is she kind, but inspirational. Happyness is a widow who has established her own business and can now afford to send her two children (19 and 16) to school and college. Happyness also runs a widow’s empowerment group in Sokon 1.

Zuma+and+Helen.jpg

Zuma’s Family

Behind Zuma’s success is a supportive and encouraging family. Helen, Zuma’s wife is a gracious yet powerful woman. She works at Cheti schools to assist with the smooth operation and maintenance, specifically at Cheti 5. Linda and Lucky are Zuma and Helen’s two children. Linda is studying at university and Lucky is in Grade 6 at Cheti 5.

Kaaya.jpg

Kaaya

Kaaya, a safari chef who speaks very little English, made such an impact on Maeve’s life, showing her what true kindness is. For 5 days, Kaaya was a wonderful friend, who spent hours of an evening teaching Maeve Kiswahili out of pure generosity. He is a wonderful man (and cook) who has become an even better companion.

Godfrey

Godfrey is a safari guide who Maeve was lucky enough to meet in 2019. With both Godfrey and Kaaya, Maeve’s sense of belonging and family in Tanzania grew. Godfrey taught Maeve so much about the Northern Tanzanian landscape and animals as well as making her practice Kiswahili. Godfrey is a true friend and family to Maeve.
